Great activity ideas for kids in the summer holidays
Looking for fun things to do with the kids over the summer that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg?
There are loads of things to do in the summertime, and although we aren't always blessed with gorgeous sunny days, that’s no reason not to enjoy the great outdoors (it's nothing a raincoat and a pair of wellies can't handle!).
So whilst you maybe all booked up for the summer of fun here at Barracudas, there might be a few gaps in your holidays.
15 free activities to keep them busy
Go for a nature walk / Scavenger hunt: Enjoy the fresh air and take in a nice long walk. Why not create a list of things you might find out on your walk to keep the kids entertained
Have a movie night: Get the kids to choose the theme and make special movie snacks to enjoy with the film
Go crabbing and rock pooling at your nearest beach (might have to pay for ice cream though!). So much wonderful coastline in the UK and none of it that far away! Pack up buckets, nets, spades maybe even your swimming togs!
Visit a museum: Take a look at some of the amazing free museums we have in this country, try the Science Museum or the Natural History Museum in London – full of plenty of activities for the kids to enjoy
Try geocaching: There are millions of geocaches worldwide, just waiting for you to find them. There are probably even some within walking distance of where you are right now. Visit Geocaching.com
Hit up your local parks and skate parks: Keep it simple and completely free and fun to do
Look for the ‘Kids eat for free’ participating restaurants and bag yourself a tasty cheap meal for the family Take a look at the participating restaurants
Head to your local library: There could be some free classes and workshops running over the summer
Camp out at night: Pitch a tent in the garden, grab your sleeping bags and torches and be prepared for a fun night in the wild (garden)
Stargazing and astronomy: Find a clear night, lay out a blanket, and gaze up at the stars. You can use smartphone apps to identify constellations and planets
Community events: Many communities organise free outdoor events during the summer, such as concerts, festivals, and farmers' markets. These can be great opportunities to explore local culture and enjoy some free entertainment
